New Playa Bowls Location Opens At Rutgers

The popular beach eatery has made its way to the Rutgers New Brunswick campus

Playa Bowls, the smoothie bowl shop wildly popular among beach goers, held the grand opening of its first non-beach location on the Rutgers New Brunswick campus today.

The opening day was a party, with a live DJ, slow motion booth, video crew, and giveaways for those who attended.

For them, the decision to bring their acai bowls to the college was a no-brainer. Rutgers has a special place in the Playa Bowls owners hears: three out of four partners are Rutgers alumni.

"Our demographic is millenials so it's a perfect fit plus it is special for us to open up at the college we went to," owner Desi Saran told Patch.

Acai bowls are berry-based smoothies, poured in bowls and topped with whole pieces of fruit and granola. These health-conscious options have become favorites along the Jersey shore, with lines at their Belmar location sometimes stretching down the block.

Right now, the options are the same across all four locations, but Saran told Patch, "We may however add a Rutgers special bowl soon." They will "most likely" offer delivery.

Playa Bowls Rutgers is located at 53 Mine Street, and is open between 9:00AM and 9:00 PM.
