A New Jersey man has been charged in connection with stabbing at a Rutgers fraternity party this weekend.

Robert Mannifield, 20, of North Brunswick has been arrested and charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in connection with stabbing a Rutgers University student on Sunday, according to The Asbury Park Press.

Mannifield was arrested around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday and sent to the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick, Jennifer Bradshaw, New Brunswick spokesperson, told The Press.

The Press quoted Joseph Venditto, a Lakewood dentist, who said the victim is his son, Joe, 20, of Toms River, who has three large stab wounds to his abdomen. The family said Joe is "not out of danger," saying he did not know the person who stabbed him with a type of box cutter.

The New Brunswick Police Department, meanwhile, said it is investigating an aggravated assault against the Rutgers student, which occurred after midnight Sunday at a house party on Delafield Street between Courtland and Bristol streets.

The victim told police he was approached by a male suspect following a verbal altercation outside an off-campus house party at 12:43 a.m. Sunday, police said, saying the perpetrator assaulted the victim with a sharp object and then fled the area, police said.

The New Brunswick Police Department asks that anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, to contact the New Brunswick Police Department Detective Bureau at 732-745-5217.
