Homeless Man Stole Food Delivery Car In New Brunswick, Police Say

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A homeless man stole a car making a food delivery Sunday evening in New Brunswick, said police. The car was taken by force on Bishop Street between Neilson and George streets.

At 5:40 p.m. a man, later identified as Natanel Azulay, 31, identified by police as transient or homeless, approached a gray 2000 Toyota Camry operating a food delivery service.

A man and a woman, both from Edison, were inside. Police say he forcefully pushed both from the vehicle when they stopped to make a delivery. No weapon was shown and no injuries were reported. The man drove off in the stolen car towards Neilson Street.

New Brunswick Police reported the incident and put out a statewide BOLO (be on the lookout) for the stolen car. A few hours later Sunday night, New Jersey State Police said they found the car and the suspect on the Turnpike near Exit 3 in Camden County.

Azulay was arrested by State Police and charged with eluding, receiving stolen property and resisting arrest. He was further charged by New Brunswick Police with carjacking, burglary, attempted robbery, motor vehicle theft and simple assault.

He is currently lodged at the Camden County Jail.

In a completely separate crime, three cars were stolen from the Yellow Lot on the Rutgers Livingston campus last Thursday, March 31, according to Rutgers campus police. All three cars were parked in a lot at 85 Rockafeller Road in Piscataway and the thefts were reported to have occurred between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. last Thursday.

The cars were parked and locked when they were stolen. One of the cars has since been recovered by a local police agency.

The descriptions of the perpetrators in those three thefts are limited at this time.
