Protest In New Brunswick Against Trump's Immigration Plans

A protest is planned in New Brunswick Saturday to end family separation, end family detention and end Trump's "zero tolerance" policy.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — There will be a rally this Saturday, June 30 on the steps of New Brunswick City Hall to protest President Trump's immigration policies. This is in addition to a similar rally planned for Friday afternoon at Cai's Cafe in Metuchen, organized by First Presbyterian Church of Metuchen.

Saturday's protest against Trump is part of a national day of action, with an estimated 600 similar protests planned across the country. A similar protest will be held outside Cai's Cafe in Metuchen this Friday from 3-8 p.m.

Rally organizers, among them MoveOn.org in conjunction with the ACLU, said they will be protesting the Trump administration’s policy of forcibly separating children from their parents at the border. Attendees are also calling for separated families immediately be reunified, and for Trump to end his new "zero tolerance" immigration policy.

They said they are calling for three main things:

  • Reunite families now. Permanently end family separation and immediately reunify those that have been separated.
  • End family detention. Children and families deserve due process, not indefinite imprisonment. Children do not belong in baby cages and internment-like camps. Family incarceration is not the solution to family separation.
  • End ‘Zero Tolerance.’ Reverse the Trump administration’s policy that created this crisis and chaos to begin with. Parents should not be criminally prosecuted for doing what all parents do, which is bring their children to safety. This horrible nightmare for families will only end when Trump permanently stops his 100% prosecution policy.
