Rutgers Student Mugged Tuesday, Police Report

The student was injured, but not seriously enough to require medical attention. It happened early Tuesday morning, police said.

NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A Rutgers student was mugged while walking through the streets of downtown New Brunswick late Monday night, campus police announced. The student was injured, but not seriously enough to require medical attention. The incident occurred just a few days before the school's graduation this Sunday.

The student told police that he was walking on Delafield Street between Bristol and Courtland streets at approximately 2:40 a.m. Tuesday. He reported that he engaged in conversation with a male perpetrator who subsequently struck him, took items of value and then fled in an unknown direction.

The victim refused medical attention at the time of the incident and sustained non-life threatening injuries. The description of the perpetrator is limited at this time.
