Rutgers Tight End Added to John Mackey Watch List

Rutgers University tight end Tyler Kroft made his way on to a national watch list with his play on the football field halfway through the season.

Kroft, a sophomore from Downingtown, was added to the 2013 John Mackey Award watch list this week, according to the University. The John Mackey Award is given to the best tight end in the nation.

Kroft has 18 receptions for 268 yards, and has a touchdown in each of the last three games, according to scarletknights.com.

He is seventh in the nation for receiving yards among tight ends, according to ncaa.com.

His last 14 catches have resulted in either a first down or a touchdown, according to the University.

Kroft was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week after catching six passes for 133 yards in a 28-24 win over Arkansas last month.

He became the first Scarlet Knights tight end to go over 100 yards receiving in a game since Clark Harris in the 2006 Texas Bowl, according to the University.

Semifinalists for the award will be announced Nov. 18, and finalists will be announced Nov. 25. The award will be presented to the winner on Dec. 12 as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on ESPNU.
