"I think it's a really attractive match up.  It's a really attractive match up for our fan base," Rutgers head coach Kyle Flood said following Saturday night's win over South Florida. "It will certainly be an attractive matchup for their fan base and I think it will attractive to just the casual college sports fan that wants to see an event and to get an opportunity to go watch a football game in Yankee Stadium, one of the premiere venues in the world, I think it will be a really, really excited crowd on the 28th of December."

Rutgers is 0-4 all-time against Notre Dame, last falling to the Fighting Irish, 42-0, on Nov. 23, 2002. The Scarlet Knights also fell to Notre Dame in 2000 (45-17), 1996 (62-0) and 1921 (48-0).

The Scarlet Knights lost in overtime to eventual Mountain West Conference champion Fresno State (11-1) to open the season before reeling off four straight wins, including a win over Arkansas for the second season in a row.
Rutgers lost five of its next six games.

This included a 24-10 loss to preseason conference favorite and national title contender Louisville, but it also included a 49-14 Homecoming loss to Houston and a three-point win over Temple (2-10, 1-7).

Senior quarterback Chas Dodd started the last two games of the season in place of junior Gary Nova, who both shined and struggled throughout the year. Dood threw a pair of touchdown passes in Rutgers’ win over South Florida on Saturday.

Rutgers will be making its second appearance in the Pinstripe Bowl. The Scarlet Knights defeated Iowa State, 27-13, following the 2011 season.

A year after playing for the national championship, Notre Dame finds itself playing in Yankee Stadium for the first time since defeating Army, 27-3, on Nov. 20, 2010. That game was at the new Yankee Stadium, but Notre Dame made numerous appearances at the previous Yankee Stadium, including a famous 0-0 tie with Army in 1946 that resulted in a national title for the Fighting Irish.

Notre Dame was 8-4 this season, including a 17-13 win over Michigan State, the only loss this year for the Big 10 champion.

This will be the fourth annual edition of the Pinstripe Bowl. Last year, Syracuse defeated West Virginia, 38-14.

Tickets for the game are available at scarletknights.com, by calling 1-800-455-GORU and in-person at the Rutgers ticket office any time Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Prices range from $45 to $210.
