While he had many roles in his acting career, Garson was best known for playing Stanford Blatch, best friend to Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie on the show. The role also made him a gay icon, although Blatch was actually heterosexual in real life. Garson appeared in both "Sex and the City" spin-off movies and was scheduled to appear in the upcoming third remake of the hit show, "And Just Like That."
He was mourned Wednesday by co-star Mario Cantone, who played his love interest that spanned decades in the "Sex and the City" franchise.

"I couldn’t have had a more brilliant TV partner. I’m devastated and just overwhelmed with sadness. Taken away from all of us way soon. You were a gift from the gods sweet Willie. Rest …I love you," wrote Cantone on Instagram.
Cynthia Nixon also mourned him, calling him the "consummate professional — always."
So deeply, deeply sad we have lost @WillieGarson. We all loved him and adored working with him. He was endlessly funny on-screen and and in real life. He was a source of light, friendship and show business lore. He was a consummate professional— always. pic.twitter.com/G63EJIj8lG
