Shooting At Police After New Brunswick Traffic Stop
A man pulled over Tuesday afternoon in New Brunswick fled on foot and fired a handgun at police officers, the county prosecutor said.
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A man stopped for a traffic stop Tuesday afternoon in New Brunswick fled on foot and fired a handgun at police officers, the Middlesex County Prosecutor said.
At 12:35 p.m. Tuesday, detectives with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office tried to pull over a car on Mitchell Avenue in New Brunswick. The prosecutor did not reveal why that car was initially pulled over, but it was for a motor vehicle violation.
The passenger in the vehicle fled on foot and discharged a handgun as he fled, said police.

The officers did not return fire. After a brief foot chase the suspect was located and placed in custody. The driver of the vehicle left the scene and was later apprehended by New Brunswick police.
Both men were taken into custody without incident.
