Shooting In Rutgers Campus Parking Garage Possibly Accidental: Police
A man shot himself in the lower body while parked in a Rutgers campus parking garage Sept. 28, in a shooting that may have been accidental:
NEW BRUNSWICK, NJ — A man shot himself in the lower body while parked in a parking garage on the Rutgers campus Sept. 28, according to Rutgers campus police.
He shot himself in the lower body and it is unknown why the gun discharged, said Rutgers University Police Chief Kenneth Cop, director of public safety. The gun may have accidentally discharged, said police.
The man, Aldo Ruiz-Galindo, 20, of New Brunswick is also accused of lying to police about what happened.

At 5:41 p.m. Sept. 28, Rutgers campus police were called to the Douglass Parking Deck at 70 Lipman Drive for a 911 call of a man who sustained a gunshot wound to a lower extremity.
The man initially told police the injury occurred several blocks away in the city of New Brunswick, but an investigation by Rutgers Police determined "the wound was self-inflicted and occurred within the Douglass Parking Deck while he was seated alone in his vehicle."

The man was taken to a local hospital for a non-life threatening injury.
Ruiz-Galindo was charged with possession of a weapon and making a false report to law enforcement authorities. The investigation is ongoing and Rutgers University Police ask that anyone with additional information, or who may have been in the area at the time, contact the RUPD Detective Bureau at 848-932-8025.
