Sporting News Names Rutgers Wide Receiver Brandon Coleman Preseason All-American

He made the preseason magazine's third-team.

Rutgers University wide receiver Brandon Coleman has been named to the Sporting News’ preseason all-American team.

Coleman, a junior from Accokeek, Maryland, was named to the third team in the publication’s college football magazine. He was an all-Big East selection last season.

According to scarletknights.com, Coleman caught 16 touchdown passes in 26 games, putting him in a tie for fifth-place on the university’s all-time list.

He had 718 receiving yards and caught 10 touchdowns last year. He caught 43 passes, and is averaging 21.2 yards per catch.

Coleman was named the best athlete in the conference, and Rutgers was picked to finish second in the American Athletic Conference (AAC).

The magazine also selected Coleman, junior offensive lineman Kaleb Johnson, senior defensive end Jamil Merrell, senior offensive lineman Antwan Lowery to the preseason all-conference team, according to scarletknights.com.

Lindy’s preseason magazine had the same Scarlet Knights named to the all-conference team, with the addition of junior defensive back Lorenzo Waters. Lindy’s also picked Rutgers to finish second in the AAC.

Athlon’s list of Scarlet Knights on its preseason all-conference team is identical, with the additions of junior running back Savon Huggins, junior center Betim Bujari, sophomore defensive tackle Darius Hamilton and senior kick returner Jeremy Deering.

The season begins Thursday night, Aug. 29 when the Scarlet Knights travel to Fresno State for a 10 p.m. kickoff.
