State Theatre Receives $30,000 Horizon Foundation Grant

The grant is for its artist-in-residence program.

State Theatre was among 35 New Jersey groups that received grants from the Horizon Foundation this week.

According to the foundation, the center received a $30,000 grant to support the Artist-in-Residence Program.

It was part of a total of $691,250 in grants awarded to 35 non-profit organizations that are working to improve the health and quality of life of New Jersey residents.

“The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey is committed to supporting non-profit organizations that are making a positive impact in the lives of New Jersey residents,” Robert A. Marino, Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Horizon Foundation for New Jersey and Chairman and CEO of Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, said in a prepared statement. “We commend these organizations for their work and proudly support their efforts to enrich the quality of life in New Jersey’s communities.”

· The Arc of New Jersey in North Brunswick, which received a grant of $25,000 to support the Healthy Lifestyles Project.  The grant funds a health literacy curriculum for individuals with disabilities.  Participants receive information about adopting a healthy lifestyle, preventative health exams and screenings, managing health concerns and chronic conditions and navigating the health care system; and

· Diocese of Metuchen in Metuchen, which received a grant of $25,000 to support St. John’s Family Health Center’s Diabetes Management Education Program.  The program screens patients for diabetes and provides no cost or affordable treatment to those diagnosed with the health condition.  The program also offers case management services, nutritional education in English and Spanish, medication and lab assistance, and evaluations by a podiatrist and optometrist.
