This past Sunday, the teenage members of Middlesex County 4-H hosted Project GIFT.

This is a day of free holiday shopping for Middlesex County families in need. More than 120 families were confidentially invited to stroll through a gymnasium in East Brunswick and select which gifts they would like, for free.

The 4-H teens and their families had collected more than 1,000 brand-new unwrapped gifts.

There was also a gift wrap station, childcare, snacks and refreshments — all set up by the teenagers who participate in 4-H.

The teens and tweens had donated hundreds of hours of their time to set this up: The $10,000 budget came from other 4-H projects, such as the haunted house 4-H sets up every Halloween and the Middlesex County Fair in August.

This is the twenty fifth year Middlesex County 4-H has done the toy drive, which started in 1997.

"I want to thank all the 4-H members, as well as all the 4-H advisers, for all of the hard work they put into making this year’s Project GIFT a success,” said Middlesex County Commissioner Director Ronald Rios. “On behalf of myself and my colleagues on the Board of County Commissioners, I just want to say how grateful we are to our Middlesex County residents who have donated to this program throughout the years.”
