NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ — The New Providence Police Department is partnering with a local restaurant this June to reward children who demonstrate safe behaviors in the community.
The initiative, called "Slices for Safety," will run throughout the month of June. Officers patrolling neighborhoods will issue vouchers for a free slice of pizza at Celestino's Pizza and Ristorante to children spotted practicing safety habits, including wearing helmets, using crosswalks, and "following the rules of the road."
The department said the program is "a wonderful way to reward good choices, protect our youth, and build positive relationships between our officers and the youngest members of our community."
Celestino's Pizza and Ristorante is sponsoring the pizza vouchers for the initiative.
