NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ — Drivers can expect increased police enforcement throughout New Providence as officers focus on pedestrian safety and impaired driving this Halloween.
The New Providence Police Department announced its participation in New Jersey's Goal Zero Halloween Enforcement Initiative on Saturday, Oct. 31.
During the day, officers will increase traffic enforcement in neighborhoods, focusing on speeding, pedestrian safety and crosswalk violations to help protect trick-or-treaters.
As Halloween activities continue into the evening, enforcement will shift toward identifying impaired drivers and removing them from roadways.
The initiative aims to eliminate traffic fatalities and serious injuries.
Police are reminding motorists to slow down, watch for children and stop for pedestrians in crosswalks.
Drivers are also urged to put away their phones, avoid driving impaired and arrange a safe ride home.
"Let's work together to make Halloween safe for everyone in New Providence!" the department wrote in its announcement.
