Beauty on a Budget

Living on a fixed income or a scaled down salary doesn’t have to mean you have to sacrifice getting the luxury brands you want.  It just means you have to be a little smarter about ways to save on your favorite things.

For the past three years, I’ve made it my mission (welcome to my unemployed life) to get almost everything for practically nothing.

But there’s only one thing I like better than getting a great deal, and that’s sharing it with everyone I know!

Let’s start with the price of beauty.  Why does it have to be so expensive?  Truth is, it doesn’t!

Last year, in my Patch article, How To Be a Hair Model, or Just Look Like One, I highlighted (no pun intended) how I get the gray out of my hair without spending a single dime.  I can’t believe I didn’t hear about L’Oreal’s product evaluation center sooner.

In addition to providing FREE hair care services, L’Oreal also conducts beauty products and cosmetic sensory testing in Clark.  My blog post on www.frugalinda.com "What Would You Do For  A Goodie Bag" provides all the information and links you’ll need in order to become a beauty products panelist too.  If you don’t live nearby, some studies are conducted by mail.

Because L’Oreal doesn’t cut hair (they only color, relax, perm, condition, etc.), I also began searching for a way to have my hair cut and styled without spending much (if any) money.

Lucky for me, I learned that Frederic Fekkai, a world class salon with three locations in Manhattan, offers free hair cuts in exchange for the use of your lovely locks during workshop days.  Here’s the skinny on how to Get free High  End Hair Cuts as a Hair Model.

Today, I scored an awesome goodie bag, filled with full sized products from Vichy, Pureology, Lancome, just to name a few.  All I had to do was participate in a moisturizer study, conducted at  L’Oreal’s Product Evaluation Center in Clark.

It took less than thirty minutes and I walked out with high end sunscreen, smoothing serum, and cosmetics.  I also received a stamp on my PEC card – and after three visits (and three stamps), I’ll receive a pass to the Company Store, where I can purchase everything 50% off.

After scoring so much swag lately, I won’t likely need much, but it’ll be worth the trip.
