Berkeley Heights Township : Twp Gets $62K Grant For Glenside Road Project
This project specifically includes:
April 26, 2021
The Township of Berkeley Heights has been awarded $62,000 from the Union County Board of County Commissioners as part of the 2021 Infrastructure and Municipal Aid Grant. The money will fund drainage improvements at Glenside Road (mainly the hill portion of the road) and various additional locations. Glenside Road serves as the main access route between two Union County roadways - Mountain Ave and Glenside Ave. This project would help mitigate: traffic safety issues (aquaplaning and icing conditions, to name a few), erosion, reduced bearing capacity in the sub-grade and road structure, causing permanent deformation, frost heave, reduced pavement lifetime and increases pavement management costs.

This project specifically includes:
- Design and installation of storm sewer facilities
- Installation of proper surface drainage as as well as sub-surface drainage, to remediate constant water leaks, which turn to ice in colder weather
- Milling, resurfacing and roadway restoration of Glenside Road, near Hunterdon Blvd.
The Township must approve funds, which are included in the 2021 budget, for the municipal portion of the project; we anticipate awarding the bid to do the work in the Summer 2021.
