School Smoking Policy Delayed in Berkeley Heights

BOE President Helen Kirsch suggested re-writing policy for June 25 meeting.

At its Monday meeting, the Berkeley Heights Board of Education opted to delay voting on a districtwide smoking policy for school buildings and grounds, according to The Alternative Press.

At issue are concerns over balancing the needs of students, staffers and school visitors—and considering the phenomenon of electronic cigarettes that do not emit smoke, according to board members.

Board President Helen Kirsch suggested the smoking policy be rewritten and brought up for discussion at the body's July 25 meeting.
