Car Thief Caught On Home Camera In Berkeley Heights: Police​

The burglar went into a home, stole the car keys from a purse, and was caught on home surveillance footage, according to police.

BERKELEY HEIGHTS, NJ — A burglar was caught on camera while stealing a car from a home in Berkeley Heights, last Wednesday, according to police. The robber pushed up an unlocked window, went into the home, and grabbed a purse with the car keys.

The incident happened around 5:30 a.m. A 17-second surveillance clip published and shared by police shows a person wearing a ski mask approaching the house.

Authorities were able to find the car, a BMW X5, which was left in North Brunswick, along with another car (a Porsche), stolen separately out of Long Branch.

According to police, there have been a few similar incidents in other New Jersey communities lately, where someone enters a home in search of car keys.

Authorities are therefore encouraging residents to make sure they lock all their doors and windows.
