Flood Watch Issued For New Providence Due To Heavy Rain

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ — The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for New Providence through Wednesday morning as heavy rainfall could lead to flash flooding across the area.

Officials warn that periods of intense rain may cause rapid flooding on roadways, in low-lying areas, near small streams, and in locations with poor drainage. Stormwater systems may also become overwhelmed during heavy downpours.

Residents are encouraged to take precautions by clearing leaves and debris from storm drains and curb inlets near their property, while avoiding flooded areas and never attempting to remove debris from flooded roadways or storm drains.

The Borough Office of Emergency Management also advises residents to be cautious around damaged trees and hanging branches that could fall during heavy rain or gusty winds.

Officials recommend monitoring weather forecasts closely, ensuring Wireless Emergency Alerts are enabled on mobile devices, and having multiple ways to receive emergency notifications.
