New Deals for Old Wheels

On Saturday, June 14, Faith Lutheran Church, 524 South Street, New Providence will be collecting second-hand bikes for use by adults.  The collection will be conducted on behalf of Pedals for Progress, an organization which annually recycles over 10,000 bicycles for persons in developing countries.  Anyone with a bicycle in repairable condition is urged to donate to this worthy cause.

Bikes may be dropped off from 9 am to 12 Noon on Saturday, June 14 at the parking lot adjacent to Faith Lutheran.

Since 1997, Pedals for Progress has collected more than 140,000 bicycles and shipped this material wealth to persons in need of the developing countries of Latin America, Africa and the Pacific Islands.  In these countries, the bikes are reconditioned by partner agencies and distributed at low cost to poor working adults. 

The bikes provide the adults with reliable transportation for commuting to work, transporting produce to market and accessing health care and other services.  Steady employment for the adults is vital to the development and success of these economies.
