New Providence Man Found Guilty Of Sexually Assaulting Child

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ — A New Providence man was found guilty of sexually assaulting the child his girlfriend was hired to babysit, acting Union County Prosecutor Michael A. Monahan announced Friday.
Manuel Vasquez, 30, was convicted by a Union County jury of first-degree aggravated sexual assault and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, Monahan said.
The victim was between 6 and 8 years of age when Vasquez sexually assaulted her on two separate occasions and also showed her sexually graphic videos, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Christina Fay, who prosecuted the case.

Now 14 years old, the victim testified at trial explaining how Vasquez was able to get her alone and why she didn't report the abuse sooner.
Vasquez was arrested in August 2018 and indicted two and a half months later, Fay said.

Vasquez will face a term of up to 25 years in state prison and is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday, May 3.
