New Providence Opens Cooling Centers With Extreme Heat Expected This Week

Triple-digit temperatures are expected later this week.

NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ — The Borough of New Providence has designated the following locations as cooling center locations for anyone who needs relief from the heat with triple-digit temperatures expected later this week.

Here are locations of cooling centers this week:

New Providence Memorial Library

  • Monday, Tuesday & Thursday: 10 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

DeCorso Community Center

  • 15 East Fourth Street
  • Monday – Thursday: 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Municipal Center Lobby

  • 360 Elkwood Avenue
  • Friday: 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.

Heat Safety Tips:

  • Drink plenty of water.
  • Stay in air-conditioned spaces whenever possible.
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
  • Limit outdoor activities during the hottest part of the day.
  • Check on older adults, neighbors, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to extreme heat.
  • Don't forget your pets—they need shade and fresh water, too.
