New Providence Teen Win National Merit Scholarship

Local student is among the winners of National Merit Scholarships.

A students from New Providence is among the winners of National Merit Scholarships.

Students from around the state have won:

  • National Achievement Scholarships, which honor some 800 outstanding black high school seniors
  • College-Sponsored Merit Scholarships: some 2,200 students have won these scholarships, which are financed by U.S. colleges and universities.
  • Corporate-Sponsored Merit Scholarship Winners: more than 1,000 distinguished high school seniors have been been awarded these scholarships, which are financed by corporations, company foundations, and other business organizations.
  • National Merit® $2500 Scholarship Winners: some 2,500 Merit Scholars were chosen from a pool of more than 15,000 finalists.

Yolanda Zhou, a New Providence resident who attends Union County Magnet High School, won a National Merit $2500 Scholarship.
