OAKLAND, NJ — A 39-year-old Oakland man faces sexual assault and child endangerment charges after allegedly assaulting a girl younger than 13, authorities announced Thursday.
Victor G. Sayas was arrested Wednesday in Oakland after an investigation by the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and Oakland Police Department, according to the prosecutor's office.
Oakland police contacted the county's Special Victims Unit on Monday regarding an alleged sexual assault. Investigators alleged that Sayas sexually assaulted the child in Oakland, officials said.
Sayas was charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second-degree sexual assault and third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. He was sent to the Bergen County Jail pending his appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack.
Prosecutor Mark Musella thanked the Oakland Police Department and Bergen County Sheriff's Office for assisting with the investigation.
Sayas is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
