OAKLAND, NJ — Oakland officials could take the next steps Tuesday on two stormwater projects involving the Ramapo River and Mountain View Avenue.
The Borough Council is scheduled to consider a $64,600 contract with Boswell Engineering for work involving 10 failed or severely damaged stormwater outfalls along the Ramapo River, according to the borough's Tuesday meeting agenda.
A stormwater outfall is a point where a municipal storm sewer system discharges collected stormwater into a body of water, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
The proposed $64,600 would cover three parts of the work. Boswell Engineering estimates $22,500 for land surveying, $16,600 for preliminary construction documents and $25,500 for New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection permitting.
The Ramapo River has long been part of Oakland's history. The borough says numerous mills in the area were once powered by the river and surrounding streams.
A separate resolution would authorize a $12,000 engineering contract for Mountain View Avenue. The agenda says about 200 linear feet of 12-inch storm pipe there is failing.
The council will also consider a resolution involving $100,000 in proposed Bergen County Community Development Block Grant funding for the Mountain View Avenue project.
Members of the public will also have an opportunity to comment during the meeting. According to the agenda, comments are limited to three minutes per person, with the open public comment session limited to 30 minutes.
The Borough Council meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Municipal Court Chambers at 10 Lawlor Drive.
