Dogwood Elementary’s Barbara Verga has been named one of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation’s regional school nurses of the year.
The Bergen and Rockland County, NY, chapter of the organization called for nominations from parents throughout the final months of the school year, and due to a larger than average pool of nominations this year selected three school nurses for the regional recognition.
“Kids with type 1 diabetes require a lot of extra care,” said Kirsten Hepsen, the chapter’s events manager, adding that due to the extra attention paid to the organization’s constituents, the recognition represents school nurses that truly “go above and beyond” the scope of their job.
