Rotary Club Scores with Charity Garage Sale

"It was an incredible success," said Oakland Mayor Linda Schwager.

The Oakland/Franklin Lakes Rotary Club Garage Sale was a big success according to both the borough mayor and Rotary president.

"It was an incredible success," said Oakland Mayor Linda Schwager. "This was by far the best turn out we have ever had. It was so wonderful to have so many people participate — both in donating items and of course those who stopped by to get in on all the deals.”

The garage sale focused on items donated by residents and was held at the offices of Oakland Mayor Schwager, who is also a Rotary Club member.

The club raised more than $800 during the Saturday event, according to Oakland/Franklin Lakes Rotary Club President Peter Kikot.

“We raise money one dollar at a time so it takes a lot of items and a lot of buyers to turn a profit," said Kikot. "This year we had so many items donated that we were able to make more money for our annual scholarship fund than ever before. I couldn’t be more proud of our members and our community who selflessly supports us year after year.”

Residents who made a donation received a tax deductible receipt that could be used for deductions and those who made purchases knew that their support, in turn, supports the programs of the club.
