Spring Recreation Sports Weekend Upcoming
Events scheduled for Saturday and Sunday include baseball games, a parade, and free entertainment.

Field 5 will be packed with baseball and softball festivities this weekend as part of the Recreation Commission's Spring Recreation Sports Weekend.
Events will begin on Saturday with back-to-back little league all-star games, featuring minor league players at 5:00 p.m. and major league players at 7:30.
The weekend will continue Sunday with a baseball and softball parade kicking off at noon, and a mid-season ceremony where two retired volunteer coaches will be inducted into the Oakland Sports Hall of Fame.

Joe Alderisio, one of the inductees, accumulated over 15 years as a coach and director of the wrestling program. The other, Joe Capo, coached and directed boys basketball. Both men retired from coaching last year.
"Mr. Alderisio and Mr. Capo are very high quality people that made excellent role models for Oakland's youth while donating much of their time," Recreation Commission Chairman Mike Guadagnino said. "These are the kind of people we proudly honor in the Oakland Sports Hall of Fame."

The recreation building, built 20 years ago and named for recreation spearhead Danny D'Elia, will also be rededicated after a one-year remodeling effort by volunteers and donations from the Oakland Father's Club, Mother's Club and Recreation Commission. Two murals were added to the building's exterior in the last year.
The weekend events will also feature air rides, a snow cone machine, hot dogs, and drinks free to all attendees.
