UPDATE: Donations In Memory Of Bergen Teen Killed In Crash Saturday Top $10,000

The money will be used to help pay for the boy's funeral and for shirts and bracelets that will be made in his memory.

More than $10,000 was donated in seven hours for the 'Let's Do This For Nick' online campaign to help the Mahwah 17-year-old's family to help pay for his funeral.

The Mahwah High School senior, whose full name is being withheld, was killed in a single-car crash in Mahwah Saturday night at about 10:30 p.m., according to Acting Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal, who was cited in multiple news reports.

The boy's friend Dylan Pfeifer started the GoFundMe campaign.

"He was a great friend to everybody and everyone loved him," Pfeifer said on the page. "We are here to raise money for bracelets and or shirts for Nicholas so he can live through all of us. The rest will be donated to the family due to the fact funerals are expensive and we will do anything for a fellow T-Bird."

The young man was in a Toyota Highlander with five other boys when the vehicle hit a tree at Bellgrove Drive and North Bayard Lane late Saturday night, Mahwah Police Chief James Batelli told NorthJersey.com. Batelli could not be reached for comment.

Three girls in a car were reportedly following the boys when the crash occurred, the NorthJersey.com report stated. The weather, which made the roads wet, may have contributed to the crash, according to the report.

Authorities are investigating the crash. A representative from the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office could not be reached for comment.
