1 Of State's Leading Flood Experts To Speak At Ocean City Library

Thomas O. Herrington will speak at a presentation co-sponsored by FIT and OC Flooding on June 6.

OCEAN CITY, NJ β€” Thomas O. Herrington, PhD, will speak about flooding issues at the next Fairness In Taxes (FIT) meeting on Wednesday, June 6, in Ocean City.

Herrington’s presentation, β€œBeyond Nuisance Flooding: Getting To Coastal Resilience In A Changing Climate,” will take place in the Chris Maloney Lecture Hall (Room 110) of the Ocean City Library, 7 p.m.

Herrington is the Associate Director of the Urban Coast Institute at Monmouth University. He is recognized as one of the state's leading experts on coastal processes, beach management and ocean engineering, according to the university.

He has written or co-written more than 100 journal, outreach and technical publications about coastal and ocean engineering. He was the director of the ocean engineering graduate program at the Stevens Institute of Technology from 2007-17 and the director of the New Jersey Coastal Protection Technical Assistance Service from 2002-17.

During the presentation, which is free and open to the public, he will discuss the past, present and future of barrier island flooding, as well as flood mitigation techniques and issues.
