$11 Million Bond Ordinance To Fund Ocean City Improvements

OCEAN CITY, NJ — City Council introduced a nearly $11 million bond ordinance set to fund various improvements around the island, including lagoon dredging, pool renovations and more.

The $10.9 million bond ordinance will be voted on at the Sept. 28 City Council meeting, at which time the public is invited to comment on it.

First in the ordinance is $1 million for continued lagoon and back bay dredging.

The package includes $9.7 million for building improvements and repairs. There are three in particular, Chief Financial Officer Frank Donato said. One is the airport/golf course building, which already has $3 million donated towards it, and the city plans to apply for another grant to help fund it.

$2.5 million will go towards a pool renovation at the Aquatic & Fitness.

The most expensive project is the construction of a new public safety annex building on Eighth Street and Boardwalk, which is currently under design, Donato said. This project is estimated to be $6.5 million.

Lastly, $200,000 will go towards communications and IT equipment. This includes camera systems and new radios for the beach patrol and mobile data computers similar to what police cars use for the fire department.
