New projects, construction, dredging, road work and more are planned in the new five-year capital budget plan.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — City officials announced their $146.2 million capital budget plan for 2023-2027, outlining new projects including road work, improvements to beaches and existing facilities, dredging and more.
Sharing the plan is only step one, officials said at a recent City Council meeting where the presentation was given. City Council is expected to vote on the plan at the Dec. 22 meeting, and in the new year, they will work on getting funding and finding contractors. Funding could also come from potential future grants.

Grimes Field would be completely renovated with a budget of $4.2 million, elevating the field as it is often soggy and muddy, and putting in new turf, new ball fields and new equipment.
The recreation facility on the 3400 block of West/Asbury would get a facelift, adding bathrooms, a new playground, five pickleball courts and redone basketball and tennis courts.
These are all planned for 2023.
Other items of note are road paving, flood mitigation and drainage projects, and beach replenishment and dredging.
In the future, the city hopes to demolish the current police headquarters and construct a new public safety building. It would be designed in 2023 at a $500,000 budget with construction in 2024, estimated at $25 million.
