OCEAN CITY, NJ — Seventeen cats were left abandoned on an Atlantic County property. An Ocean City-based rescue is raising funds to spay, neuter and vaccinate them.

A distraught homeowner left the cats on her country property, according to Cape Atlantic C.A.TS. When the owner called the town, she was told, "just feed them." But kittens are being born and dying.

"If circumstances arise that a pet can no longer be cared for, take the pet to a shelter or rescue," the organization told Patch. "Some people think cats can be left in the woods and can hunt and take care of themselves. They cannot."

It will cost $1,100 to spay, neuter and vaccinate the cats. Officials are putting a plan in place to get them fixed, healthy and into caring homes. In the meantime, Cape Atlantic C.A.TS. is looking for donations to help the process.

Check out Tuesday's post on the organization's Facebook page to figure out how to donate.
