2 Family Members Assault Cops In Jersey Shore Bar Fight, Authorities Say

SEA ISLE CITY, NJ — A pair of family members are accused of attacking cops who were attempting to take them into custody following a bar fight, according to Sea Isle City police.

Police were alerted to a fight at 5400 Landis Ave. at about 11:17 p.m. on July 25, officials said.

Patrick McStravog, 31, of Audubon, PA, was involved in a physical altercation with other patrons of the establishment, resulting in him receiving minor injuries, police said.

Police determined that McStravog was the instigator of the fight and the primary aggressor.

EMS arrived and as McStravog was being escorted to the ambulance, a family member of his, Robert McMonagle, 60, of Norristown, PA, became irate and tried to push past a cop to get to the people who were initially involved in the fight with McStravog, police said.

McMonagle struck the officer in the chest, resulting in him being placed under arrest, police said.

McMonagle resisted arrest, and physical force was used to take him into custody, police said.

Also, while McMonagle was resisting, McStravog left the care of the EMS personnel and aggressively approached the arrest location, police said.

Before he could be stopped, McStravog assaulted another officer who was trying to take McMonagle into custody, police said.

McStravog was also placed under arrest, police said. He also resisted and physical force was used.

Two Sea Isle City officers were injured. One was taken to the hospital for further treatment, police said.

McStravog was charged with aggravated assault on LEO, obstruction, resisting arrest and simple assault.

McMonagle was charged with aggravated assault on LEO, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

Both were lodged in the Cape May County Correctional Facility.
