2 Former Ocean City Nor'easters Players Drafted By Major League Soccer Teams

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Two former Ocean City Nor’easters goalkeepers were drafted in this year’s Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft, the team announced Friday morning.

Eric Klenofsky, of Lincoln Park, NJ, was drafted by D.C. United in the second round of the draft with the No. 34 pick.

Logan Ketterer, of Racine, Wisconsin, was drafted by the Columbus Crew in the fourth round of the draft with the No. 74 pick.

They are the 21st and 22nd Nor’easters players to be drafted by MLS teams. Ketterer is the second former Nor’easter drafted by the Crew, after the Crew drafted Ryan Finley in the first round of the 2013 draft. Klenofsky is the first former Nor’easter to be drafted by D.C. United.

Klenofsky was drafted after a successful career at Monmouth University. He capped off his final college season by being named the MAAC Co-Goalkeeper of the Year and an all-MAAC Second Team selection. He led the conference in save percentage (.841), second in goals against average (0.87) and had four shutouts. His Hawks career ended with 32 shutouts and 36 wins (second-most in conference history).

"I've worked for this my entire life," said Klenofsky, who was in Los Angeles to hear his named called in person. "I've been wanting to be a pro since I was five years old, so hearing my name is a dream come true."

He was the No. 6 goalkeeper in the country who played in the Premier Development League (PDL) ranked by USLPDL.com. He has also been invited to train with Everton of the English Premier League, regarded as among the prestigious soccer leagues in the world.

Klenofsky spent two years playing for the Nor’easters. In 2014, he split time, playing in three games, where he held down a 0.67 GAA with a 2-1-0 record and a shutout. In 2015, he also split time where he played in three games with a 1-2-0 record.

Ketterer played college soccer at Bradley University. He was named to the All-Conference team for the second year in a row. He started 20 games and finished with a 1.61 GAA and earned three clean sheets with 87 saves. He finished his college career at Bradley ranked fifth in school history in clean sheets (12) and sixth in minutes played (4,674).

"This is definitely unreal," said Ketterer about the moment he found out he was drafted by the Crew. "I was super excited, I was sitting in my house, refreshing the website page. Then I got a call from the coach."

Ketterer played in two games for the Nor'easters during the 2016 season where he split time with Michael Kirk and Andrew Garcia. He finished with a 1-1-0 record and shutout the Baltimore Bohemians in the club's season opener on the road. It was the first time since 2012 that Ocean City had a road shutout to kick off the season.

The 2017 MLS SuperDraft marks the third year in a row that multiple Ocean City alums were selected in the MLS SuperDraft.

In 2015, a club record four players were chosen: Tyler Miller (Seattle Sounders FC), Keasel Broome (San Jose Earthquakes), Jordan Murrell (Real Salt Lake), and Shawn McLaws (New York Red Bulls).

Last year, the record was matched when Mitchell Lurie (Philadelphia Union), Brendan Hines-Ike (Montreal Impact), Mitchell Taintor (Toronto FC) and John Manga (Colorado Rapids) were picked.

Since the Nor'easters joined the Premier Development League in 2003, 22 players have been drafted by Major League Soccer and 56 players have moved on to play professional soccer both in the U.S. and abroad.
