2 Rescued After Sailboat Runs Aground In Ocean City: Officials

The sailboat was disabled and in distress Saturday afternoon on the beach at 22nd Street, Ocean City firefighters said.

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Two people were rescued after a sailboat ran aground in Ocean City over the weekend, officials said.

The vessel was reported to be in distress at about 2 p.m. Saturday at 22nd Street and the beach, Ocean City firefighters said. Firefighters, Ocean City police and beach patrol responded to the scene.

A sailboat, about 40-feet in length, was in distress and disabled, firefighters said. It was rapidly approaching the sandbar and began getting buffeted by the waves.

The two people on board were rescued as the vessel grounded, firefighters said. One was hospitalized for injuries not considered life-threatening.

"A fast response and team effort lead to a positive outcome for the individuals involved," firefighters said.
