2 Tornadoes Confirmed In South Jersey During Tropical Storm Elsa

The National Weather service found an EF1 tornado struck Woodbine on Friday morning, while a EF0 blew through Little Egg Harbor.

LITTLE EGG HARBOR, NJ — Meteorologists with the National Weather Service on Friday confirmed two tornadoes touched down in South Jersey as Tropical Storm Elsa made her way across the region this week.

Twisters were confirmed in Woodbine in Cape May County and Little Egg Harbor in Ocean County, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly.

Tornado warnings were issued early Friday morning in parts of Cape May, Atlantic, Ocean and Monmouth counties. A 78 mph wind gust was recorded overnight near Sea Isle City and a 71 mph gust was recorded in Beach Haven on Long Beach Island, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The preliminary storm survey studied areas of damage in both communities as well as Somers Point in Atlantic County.

The National Weather Service found that an EF1 tornado touched down in Woodbine at approximately 2:40 a.m, bringing with it wind gusts up to 100 mph. Meanwhile, an EF0 tornado was recorded at 3:33 a.m. in Little Egg Harbor.

Both tornadoes were short-lived and primarily caused damage to trees and other small structures, according to the NWS report.

No injuries were reported.
