2nd Coronavirus Death Reported At N. Cape May Nursing Home
An 81-year-old man died from the virus, according to the Cape May County Health Department.
NORTH CAPE MAY, NJ — An 81-year-old man died from the novel coronavirus, the Cape May County Health Department reported Wednesday. He is the second person connected to a North Cape May nursing home to die during an outbreak at Victoria Manor.
The CMCHD has reported three COVID-19 deaths as of Wednesday. The County has tallied 111 total cases, including 15 people cleared off quarantine.
“We will keep the family and friends of this man in our hearts,” said Freeholder Jeff Pierson, liaison to the CMCHD. “It is tough to see our neighbors get sick. We will continue to do everything we can to protect Cape May County residents.”

Lower Township, which includes North Cape May, has 37 active cases of the virus as of Wednesday — more than any Cape May County town. Fifteen residents and 12 staff at Victoria Manor have tested positive for the virus, officials said Tuesday.

Ocean City has seven confirmed active cases and two patients who have recovered, officials said.
Here is Cape May County's breakdown by municipality as of Wednesday:

“Practicing routine cleaning of frequently touched surfaces such as tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops handles, desks phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks can help keep you and your family healthy and prevent the spread of disease,” said Health Officer Kevin Thomas said.
After cleaning surfaces with soap and water, it's important to use household disinfectants, officials said. Environmental Protection Agency-registered disinfectants are recommended.
Things to look for on disinfectant instructions:
- Keeping surfaces wet for a period of time .
- Precautions such as wearing gloves and making sure you have good ventilation during use.
- Diluted household bleach solutions may be used if appropriate for the surface.
- Never mix household bleach with ammonia or any other cleaner.
- Leave solution on surface for at least one minute.
- Alcohol solutions with at least 70 percent alcohol.
The CMC also recommends the following precautions when doing laundry for clothing, towels, linens and other items:
- Wear disposable gloves.
- Wash hands with soap and water as soon as you remove the gloves.
- Do not shake dirty laundry.
- Launder items according to the manufacturer’s instructions. Use the warmest appropriate water setting and dry items completely.
- Dirty laundry from a sick person can be washed with other people’s items.
- Clean and disinfect clothes hampers according to guidance above for surfaces.
