4-Time MLS Champion D.C. United to Play in Ocean City

The decorated soccer franchise will play the Nor'easters next month.

Ocean City, NJ -- Four-time MLS Cup Champion D.C. United will play a game in Ocean City next month.

D.C. United visits Carey Stadium for an exhibition game against the Ocean City Nor’easters on Saturday night, May 21, 7 p.m., the club announced on Thursday.

D.C. United has a record 12 U.S. Soccer Majors, including three Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cups wins, four MLS Supporters' Shields, and the 1998 CONCACAF Champions Cup title. Squaring off against the Union in Philadelphia, the night before, D.C. United is expected to travel with mostly senior academy players.

Players from both teams will also be available for a free youth soccer clinic for boys and girls between the ages of 6 and 13 years old. Participants are asked to bring canned food/non-perishable items or make on-site monetary donations, all of which will be donated to the Food Bank of South Jersey in lieu of payment. All registered players will receive a complimentary ticket to the game.

D.C. United defeated the Nor’easters, 2-0, in a 2009 U.S. Open Cup tournament match at the Maryland Soccerplex.

Ocean City has also played the Union, in the 2013 U.S. Open Cup. The Nor’easters are one of three active PDL teams (Michigan Bucks, Des Moines Menace) who have advanced far enough in the U.S. Open Cup to play against MLS teams more than once.

The Nor’easters didn’t qualify for this year’s tournament.
