Search For Missing Ocean City Swimmer Becomes Recovery Mission

OCEAN CITY, NJ — The search for a missing boogie boarder has turned into a recovery mission, Ocean City police said Thursday afternoon.

As of 2:05 p.m. Thursday, the man who went missing Monday evening still has not been located, Lt. Dan Lancaster said.

"Members of the Ocean City Fire Department, the Ocean City Beach Patrol and the Ocean City Police Department will be actively working in the recovery mission and continue to request additional assets as necessary to assist in that effort," he said.

At about 5:05 p.m. Monday, the U.S. Coast Guard received a report of a missing 19-year-old man who was last seen on a boogie board in the surf near 10th Street, Coast Guard officials told Patch.

Two people were on boogie boards about 200 yards from the shore, the Coast Guard said.

One was successfully rescued by the Ocean City Beach Patrol, and told authorities that they saw the missing male lose his boogie board before being hit by a wave and failing to resurface.
