OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City families can head to the Music Pier on Tuesday, July 14, for a morning performance of "How I Became a Pirate," the latest show in Ocean City Theatre Company’s 2026 Children’s Theatre Series. The family musical is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the historic Ocean City Music Pier.

According to Ocean City Theatre Company, the production is the second offering in this year’s children’s series, which the company says has been creating summer memories for children and families for more than 14 years. The show is based on the children’s book by Melinda Long and David Shannon.

The story follows Jeremy Jacob, a young boy recruited by pirates led by Captain Braid Beard. As Jeremy learns the pirate way of life, the show centers on lessons about treasure, home and family, according to the event announcement.

Young audience members are encouraged to come dressed in pirate or princess attire for the performance. Children can wear an eye patch, pirate hat, tiara or gown as part of the event, as the Music Pier becomes part of the high-seas theme described by the theater company.

"We're excited to continue our 2026 Children's Theatre Series with this energetic and imaginative production," said Michael Hartman, Artistic Director of Ocean City Theatre Company. "'How I Became a Pirate' encourages children to embrace their imagination while sharing valuable lessons about friendship, belonging, and what truly matters. It's a fun-filled adventure the entire family will enjoy."

Ocean City Theatre Company said the Children’s Theatre Series is meant to introduce young audiences to live performance. Additional productions scheduled this summer are "The Berenstain Bears" on July 21, "Junie B. Jones" on July 28 and "Schoolhouse Rock Live!" on Aug. 4. All are set for 10:30 a.m. at the Ocean City Music Pier.

Tickets for "How I Became a Pirate" and the rest of the Children’s Theatre Series are available at oceancitytheatrecompany.com. Tickets cost $11 in advance and $13 on the day of the performance. The OCTC box office at the Music Pier opens at 9:30 a.m. on show days.
