OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City will launch a new 34th Street Sandcastle Park Summer Entertainment Series on Wednesday, July 8, bringing a free weekly family event to the city’s south end. The program will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. each Wednesday through Aug. 19 at Sandcastle Park in the 3400 block between West Avenue and Asbury Avenue.
The July 8 opener will be a “Mummers Strut Kickoff” featuring the Pennsport String Band. The event will also include face-painters, balloon artists, a DJ, the Bookmobile and more. The announcement says all are invited to the free family event.
The new series is part of a busy week of special events in Ocean City. Also on July 8, the city schedule includes Beach Exercise — Pilates Yoga at 8 a.m. on the beach at Sixth Street, the Farmers Market from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Ocean City Tabernacle grounds, and Wacky Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at the Ocean City Music Pier. That contest invites participants to shape Shriver’s Salt Water Taffy and is limited to the first 200 people.
Wednesday evening events also include The Duprees performing with the Ocean City Pops at 7:30 p.m. at the Music Pier, a free guided Beach Walk at 6:30 p.m. near 59th Street and Central Avenue, and Family Night on the Boardwalk between Sixth Street and 14th Street.
The week continues with Market Days on Thursday, Mummers Night on Thursday evening, free beach exercise and the Walking Club on Friday morning, and a free concert by Joe Stefano and His Jazz Ensemble Band for veterans and guests on Friday night. Weekend events include the Ocean City Theatre Company All-Stars performing with the Ocean City Pops on Sunday, the 46th Annual T. John Carey Master’s Swim on Sunday, and TUSK: The Classic Fleetwood Mac Tribute on Monday, July 13.
