OCEAN CITY, NJ — Cape May County will host the 18th Annual NJ Run For The Fallen on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2026, with runners set to travel through several shore towns and stop at 60 Hero Markers across the county.
Ocean City's Morvay-Miley-Cruice American Legion Post 524 has been part of the event since it began in 2009, according to a press release.
The New Jersey Run for the Fallen is made up of military runners and a support crew.
According to the announcement, the group's mission is "To run one mile for each New Jersey active service member who has died during the GWOT (Global War on Terror.)"
Each mile is dedicated to a fallen New Jersey service member, and team members stop after each mile at a Hero Marker to present a flag and a personalized biographical card to family members and friends who are waiting there.
A remembrance ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 23, at the Naval Air Station Museum, 500 Forrestal Road, Cape May Airport, New Jersey. The ceremony will be followed by a buffet dinner inside the museum for Gold Star Families, the Core Runners and the Support Team.
On Thursday, Sept. 24, runners will leave Sunset Beach, 502 Sunset Blvd., Cape May Point, at 7:40 a.m. The route will take them through Cape May Point, Cape May City, Lower Township, Wildwood Crest, Wildwood, Stone Harbor/Avalon, Sea Isle City/Strathmere and Ocean City.
After the team visits the 60 Hero Markers in Cape May County, Ocean City American Legion Post 524 will provide dinner for Gold Star Families, the Core Runners and the Support Team at its headquarters, 4562 West Ave.
"Post 524 is pleased to be doing its part to pay tribute to New Jersey's brave servicemen, servicewomen and their families," said Ocean City American Legion Commander Bob Marzulli. "This is a unique and moving event and the public is invited to join us along the route."
The announcement said there are 31 Hero Markers at 16 locations in Ocean City. It also invites the public to come to one of the markers 45 minutes before the run team arrives to show appreciation for the sacrifices made by military members and their families.
