$17.5K Donation Made To Tunnels To Towers By Ocean City American Legion

OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City's Morvay-Miley-Cruise American Legion Post 524 has donated $17,500 to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, marking the fourth consecutive year the post has contributed to the organization.

The check was presented at the conclusion of the service organization's 15th Annual Jace Clark Memorial Golf Tournament, according to the announcement.

The donation came four days after the national recognition of 9/11. The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was founded to honor the life of New York City firefighter Stephen Gerard Siller, who had finished his shift on Sept. 11, 2001, when he learned that a plane had hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center. According to the announcement, Siller drove his truck through the tunnel to the Twin Towers and died while saving others.

The organization was started in December 2001 by Frank Siller, CEO of the T2T Foundation, with a mission to support first responders and military veterans by providing mortgage-free homes and building accessible smart homes, according to the announcement. Post 524 said its support comes as the foundation brings more veteran services into New Jersey.

"It is always the ideal time to honor the sacrifice of American servicemen and women and first responders who have given us the gift of freedom," said Bob Marzulli, commander of Ocean City American Legion Post 524.

Since 2023, Post 524 has contributed $68,500 to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, according to the announcement. The foundation is currently seeking approvals to develop a 99-unit Veteran's Village apartment complex, along with 22 stand-alone Comfort Homes, with an on-site supportive service center in nearby Northfield.

"Nothing would make our Post 524 members happier than to see our funding help bring new T2T veteran's services to our immediate area," Marzulli said. "In the spirit of service, not self, the American Legion honors the sacrifices of those who serve by enhancing the lives of our veterans, the military and their families, both home and abroad."
