OCEAN CITY, NJ — Ocean City Theatre Company will present the final three performances of Rodgers & Hammerstein's "A Grand Night for Singing" at the Ocean City Music Pier this weekend.
The remaining shows are scheduled for Friday, Oct. 16, and Saturday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m., according to Ocean City Theatre Company. Tickets cost $22 to $25 and are available at oceancitytheatrecompany.com.
The production is a musical revue built around songs by Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II. Ocean City Theatre Company said the show features selections from Oklahoma!, Carousel, South Pacific, The King and I, Cinderella, Flower Drum Song and State Fair, along with other Rodgers & Hammerstein songs.
According to the company, the revue was conceived by Tony Award-winning director Walter Bobbie, with musical arrangements by Fred Wells. The company said the production does not tell a single story, but instead brings together songs from across the Rodgers & Hammerstein catalog. The original production premiered on Broadway in 1993 and received two Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical.
"A Grand Night For Singing" is presented with permission by Concord Theatricals, according to the announcement.
"This is a show that reminds us just how extraordinary the Rodgers & Hammerstein songbook is," said Michael Hartman, OCTC Founding Artistic Director. "These are songs that audiences have grown up with, but 'A Grand Night for Singing' allows us to hear them in a fresh and exciting way. It is sophisticated, funny, romantic and filled with beautiful music. We are thrilled to bring a professional production of this wonderful revue to Ocean City."
Ocean City Theatre Company said the show features a cast of professional performers and is intended for both longtime Rodgers & Hammerstein fans and people looking for a live theater outing.
