Annual Student Music Competition Returns To Ocean City

OCCEAN CITY, NJ — Applications are open for the Ocean City Pops Orchestra's 13th Annual Student Music Competition.

Vocalists, instrumentalists and pianists in grades 9 through 12 in Atlantic and Cape May counties are encouraged to enter the competition hosted by the Friends of the Ocean City Pops. The competition will be held at 7 p.m. on May 3, 2023, at the Music Pier, Moorlyn Terrace and the Boardwalk.

Each applicant must have a recommendation from his/her school or private music teacher.

This year, four categories of prizes will be awarded to instrumental, female vocal, male vocal and piano participants, according to coordinator Robert Snodgrass.

The first-prize winners will each receive $1,000 and possibly featured in a Pops concert during the 2023 summer season. Each second and third place winner will receive $500 and $250 respectively. The number of prizes may be reduced depending on the number of participants.

The competition was founded in memory of Esther C. Weil, a piano teacher and life-long patron of the arts.
