Atlantic Cape Art Gallery To Feature Shelter Stories Exhibit

MAYS LANDING, NJ — Atlantic Cape Community College’s Art Gallery in Mays Landing is set to host Shelter Stories, an exhibit of creative works by local artists centered on shelter and rescue animals. The exhibit will run from Aug. 3 through Sept. 17, according to information from the college.

An opening reception is scheduled for Monday, Aug. 3, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the Art Gallery. The exhibit includes artwork depicting animals still waiting to be adopted as well as pets that have already found permanent homes.

The event is tied to a broader message about pet adoption during August.

“August is Clear the Shelter Month. We hope with this exhibit to help a life waiting for a second chance. Half of the art works in this exhibit are of dogs and cats in need of a loving home while the other are those who found a home. Our hope is that visitors leave not only moved by the artwork, but inspired to consider adoption themselves, possibly one featured on the gallery walls,” said Atlantic Cape Library Aide and Art Gallery Coordinator Mary Nghiem.

According to the college, the exhibit features numerous local artists and focuses on both animals still in shelters and those that have already been adopted. The show is being presented at Atlantic Cape’s Mays Landing campus.

The Atlantic Cape Art Gallery is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is closed Friday through Sunday. The gallery is on the second floor of the William Spangler Library D-Building on the Mays Landing campus.

The exhibit’s run through mid-September gives visitors several weeks to see the artwork and attend during regular gallery hours. The opening reception on Aug. 3 is the first scheduled public event listed for the show.
