Atlantic City Electric Aims To Reduce Power Outages In Ocean City

Reclosers will be installed for areas serving every 500 customers or fewer in order to reduce power outages.

OCEAN CITY, NJ - Atlantic City Electric will install special equipment to reduce the number of customers affected by power outages in Ocean City, officials announced on Wednesday.

Reclosers will be installed for areas serving every 500 customers or fewer, so when an outage occurs outside of a substation area, fewer homes and businesses will be impacted, officials said.

For example, instead of having a couple of thousand customers without power because of a pole accident, 500 or fewer customers will be affected until repairs are made.

Riggs Distler will be installing the reclosers. Installation will require service interruptions this winter as crews replace existing poles, transformers and wire.

Contractors will notify customers before these outages occur. For more information, call Atlantic City Electric Customer Service at 1-800-642-3780.
