Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian to Discuss Art at Annual Meeting in Ocean City

Guardian will be guest speaker at the Ocean City Arts Center annual meeting on Tuesday, March 22.

Ocean City, NJ -- Atlantic City Mayor Don Guardian will be guest speaker at the Ocean City Arts Center annual meeting on Tuesday, March 22, 7 p.m.

Guardian will discuss the state of Atlantic City and the future of art there.

Before he was mayor, Guardian was the director of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority’s Special Improvement Division for 20 years. He developed programs and standards for environmental services, landscaping and ambassador programs. In addition, he was able to add information services, economic development initiatives, and support special events, among other initiatives.

Since he came into office, Guardian added the Stockton Noyes Art Garage, events in the Garden Pier, children’s art projects and has supported the resort’s annual Boardwalk Art Show.

The meeting is free and open to the public. The Arts Center is located at the Community Center complex, 1735 Simpson Avenue.

The late James F. Penland, a talented Ocean City artist and businessman, was involved in the first Atlantic City Art Show.

He then convinced Ocean City Mayor Tom Waldman to start a similar event in Ocean City 54 years ago.

Penland, Waldman and a committee then established the city’s Art Center, first located at 409 Wesley Avenue.
